Diversity Scholarships for Philosophy Camp 2008
The Department of Philosophy seeks to award $500 scholarships to at least 6 students who will register for, participate in, and complete Philosophy Camp 2008.
Your application material (paper copy only – no e-mail or fax) must be received by Philosophy Camp Student Advisor in the Career and Community Learning Center, at 345 Fraser Hall, 106 Pleasant Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455 by 4pm on Monday, March 24th in order to be considered for the first round of awards. If all available scholarships are not awarded in this first round, late applications will be accepted and reviewed on a first come-first served basis.

These scholarships are intended to broaden the diversity of life experiences, cultures and traditions carried by students participating in Philosophy Camp.
Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled in the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities as degree-seeking students in an undergraduate or graduate program.
Award Criteria
Successful applicants will enhance the diversity of the living-learning community formed during Philosophy Camp in areas such as age, abledness/disabledness, economic status, experiences of life, work, or community involvement, academic interests, and ethnic and cultural heritage and lived traditions. Financial need is also considered in evaluating applications.
Application Process
A completed application consists of the following documents.
- Your completed application form
- A recent (unofficial is fine) copy of your transcript
- Your typed essay response (500 words maximum in all) to two questions: (i) Thinking of Philosophy Camp as a place where friendships are taking root and we value knowing others and being known, what are some things you value in your life experiences and cultural heritage and traditions that you hope Philosophy Camp participants would take an interest in? (ii) What are your hopes for Philosophy Camp in regard to (a) you as a person, (b) your academic goals, and (c) your long-term goals?

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by Professors John Wallace, Philosophy Camp Scholarship Committee Chair; William Hanson, Director of Undergraduate Studies in Philosophy; and Michael Root, Professor of Philosophy. First round awards will be made on Friday, March 28; applicants will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible thereafter by telephone or e-mail. Later awards will be announced on a rolling basis. The $500 scholarship award will be applied to the $900 program fee for Philosophy Camp, leaving a balance of $400 due in July.
